Government urges employers to get ready for new vetting scheme The Government is urging employers that recruit people who work with vulnerable groups to get ready for the new safety checks that will be introduced in October. Under the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS), employers will only be allowed to employ people who are going to regularly work with children or vulnerable adults if they are registered with the new Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) – which will have the power to bar individuals from those occupations. Full Story Synergy consultant helps out at local career day Alex Whisker from The Synergy Group's Leeds office recently ran a employability skills day for the service users of York Housing Association and YMCA Malton. The event covered a number of sessions covering everything from CV writing to interview skills. The event was considered a success by all involved and Alex plans to run 2 more sessions in the North East in the near future. More Smiles all round in Africa aid trip Earlier this month Synergy consultant Siva Singh delivered toothbrushes and fresh fruit to children in orphanages in Mombasa, Kenya. When everyone at Synergy heard of Siva's intention to visit orphanages to donate useful items, a 'Don't Forget Your Toothbrush' initiative was launched as well as a money raising drive. Full Story
